Frequently Asked Questions

A Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is a specialist facility providing medical care, forensic examinations, and emotional support for anyone who has experienced sexual violence. SARCs offer confidential services, whether or not you choose to report to the police.

If you need support, you can contact a SARC in your area:

If you live outside of these areas, please visit Find a rape and sexual assault referral centre – NHS.

If you need urgent medical attention, you can also contact NHS 111 or visit your local emergency department.

Our partnership brings together specialist services to provide free trauma-informed support, including advocacy, counselling, and emotional support for victims and survivors of sexual abuse and violence.

You can speak to an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA). ISVAs provide confidential, specialist support to help you understand your options, navigate the criminal justice process, and make informed decisions about reporting. They are there to support you, whatever you decide.

You are not alone—support is available whenever you need it.

The 24/7 Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Line is available every day, 24 hours a day. You can:

Yes, all services are confidential, except in cases where there is a serious risk to your safety or someone else’s. We will always explain our confidentiality and safeguarding policy to you.

Yes, support is available regardless of when the abuse happened. Whether it was recent or in the past, our services are here to help you at any stage of your journey.

Our network of specialist services provides trauma-informed support for victims and survivors of sexual violence across the region. Offering advocacy, counselling, emotional support, and prevention initiatives, we work with adults, children, young people, and families to help them cope, recover, and rebuild their lives. Each service is committed to addressing the trauma and injustice of sexual violence while advocating for survivors’ rights and delivering high-quality, accredited support tailored to individual needs.

If you are in immediate danger, please call 999 for emergency assistance. Our services provide specialist support for all survivors of sexual abuse and violence, but we are not a crisis or mental health service. If you need urgent mental health support, we recommend contacting your GP, NHS 111, or a dedicated mental health crisis service for immediate assistance.
